W.E.F.S.A. and Infinite Performance Arts is hosting a fund raising event called "In the Heat of The Night". Through W.E.F.S.A's
performing arts productions is aiming to use these events as youth
development fundraisers to finance youth development and early childhood
development (E.C.D.) initiatives.
The first event will take place on the 26th and 27th November 2010 at the Majestic Theater in Fordsburg, Johannesburg . Tickets are available at R100-00 per person per night.

WEFSA's ECD 2009 Annual Service Awards for "Best ECD School / Centre and Best ECD Practitioner Award" was held This year at Little People Preschool and Care Centre in Rivelea. The Best ECD School / Centre Award was handed to Davey Road Flats Daycare.The best ECD Practitioner Award was handed to Ms Sandisiwe Tsana of little people Preschool and Care Centre.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT PRESENTATIONS - SCHOOL READINESS ASSESSMENT
The ECD School of Excellence and WEFSA hosted a special guest speaker, Debbie De Jong, on the 23rd and 30th May 2009 at the Riverlea Recreation Centre and the Riverlea Empowerment Centre.
The topics presented were:
Ready, Steady, Learn - The Riverlea Recreation Centre
This presentation addressed the following:
Happy children learn better. Social skills are important for learning. Healthy body, healthy brain, hearing and listening, sight and vision.
These aspects are all related to formal learning. Teachers saw the link between each of these areas. Teachers enjoyed the information presented on the relationship between nutrition and learning, and the effect of exercise on learning.
Gearing up for Grade 1 - The Riverlea Empowerment Centre
This presentation addressed the following:
Physical development, language skills, ideas for stimulation, literacy and book knowledge, numeracy knowledge, children who begin school before they are ready, eyes and ears, diet, sleep, playing, listening skills, reading, emotional well being
Parents and teachers had an opportunity to share common areas of concern and enjoyed being able to collectively explore areas important in school readiness that they could contribute towards making children happy while havining fun, learning.
